To circumvent Egypt’s order, Pharaoh Ramses I (Ian Keith), who accuses all young Hebrews, has an infant Moses (Fraser C. Heston) placed in the Nile in a basket of reeds. Fearful of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithiah (Nina Foch), he is adopted and raised at the court of his brother, Pharaoh Sethis (Sir Cedric Hardwicke). Moses (Charlton Heston) receives favor and love for the throne from Sethi, Princess Nefretiri (Anne Baxter), as well as hatred for Sethi’s son, Ramses II (Yul Brynner). When his Hebrew heritage is revealed, Moses is cast out of Egypt, onto the desert where he marries, has a son, and is commanded by God to return to Egypt to free the Hebrews from slavery.
